At that time, I did not know much beyond the basics (foreign attack and the Navy has to kick ass), but with science fiction being my favorite genre, I knew I wanted to see the production closely. In October 2009 I was invited to visit the set of the Battle of Jonathan Liebesman: Los Angeles, while the production was filmed in Shreveport, Louisiana.
While my set visit illuminated what the film would be and how Liebesman planned to kill most of the film with handheld cameras, for now most of you already know the basics such as the impressive Battle: Los Angeles trailers have been very popular with our readers. However, for the few who have not seen, Battle: Los Angeles was published on March 11 and stars Aaron Eckhart, Bridget Moynahan, Michael Pena, Ne-Yo, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, Ramon Rodriguez and many others.
More after the jump:Although there are a number of “aliens attack” movies on the horizon, I really think Battle: Los Angeles will be very cool and most of it comes from being on set and see first hand what the production was trying to achieve.
So instead of just hearing about what I saw, seeing the video, you can get summaries of the two visits set. Before continuing, I have to apologize. Since we’re usually on the set together, we were on different days and saw things differently. I had planned on writing an in-depth piece about my visit to the set, but I’m currently at Sundance and completely flooded with hundreds of things. However, before going to the Festival of Peter, (from / Film) and recorded a video blog extended about visits our set.
The only way to describe it is that they are like real life transformers. I was very impressed. When I was standing there watching them, I really felt like I was watching a Michael Bay moment come to life. It is by the way off and landing. But one thing I want to mention that was the real highlight of the visit to the set … I’ve seen about 6 or less of Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (more information here) take off and land close to where I was standing. Of course I saw many incredible things in the set, but seeing the Osprey was something I will never forget.
You can also read / hear my joint interview with Aaron Eckhart, Michael Pena, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Ramon Rodriguez here.Anyway, here’s the video. I really think Battle: Los Angeles is going to be awesome. I have time indexed, so you can see the parts that interest you. I hope I have reason.
